Department of Computer Studies

The Department of Computer was formerly a unit under the Department of Maths & Statistics. In 2005, the Department was established as a full pledged Department offering a National Diploma in Computer Science.

The Department has both Full time and Part time programmes offering courses such as Introduction to Computer, Computer application packages, Web Technology, Computer system troubleshooting, programming languages, etc.

The objectives of the Department are to provide courses of study, training, research, and practicals in the field of computer science. It also promotes the advancement of knowledge and its practical application to students.

These objectives are being met by conducting regular lectures and hands-on practical in the computer laboratory. Also students undergo a 4-months industrial training programme to obtain industrial skills.

 

Currently, the Department has twenty-one (21) staff, which comprises Academic and non-academic staff, including casual staff.

Musa Ahmed Zayyad is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Studies, and currently the Head of Department. He was born on 1st October, 1979. He started working with Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic in October 2005 as Assistant Lecturer and rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto in 2004. He also holds M.Sc. in Information Systems in 2008 from Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus. In 2018 he obtained a PhD in Management Information Systems from Cyprus International University, North Cyprus.   

Dr. Musa has attended various local and international conferences, and has published various articles in reputable journals. Currently, Dr. Musa is a visiting scholar at Alqalam University Katsina teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, which include Artificial Intelligence, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Systems Theory, and Selected Topics in Computer Science. He is also a Facilitator at the National Open University Nigeria (NOUN), where he is supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate projects/thesis. He is also a Moderator of the Department of Computer Software Engineering, Katsina State Institute of Technology & Management (KSITM).

 His research interest includes Security issues in wireless networks, big data analysis, health information systems, and developing regulatory framework for digital currencies.
